Established in 1873, Cedar Park was developed around the ranch of Harriet Cluck and George. With the development of the railroad in the area, residents from Austin began traveling to Cedar Park to spend time at the park situated near the train depot.

Students are primarily served by the award-winning Leander Independent School District. Cedar Park High School regularly competes in statewide academic and athletic competitions. Neighborhoods in the eastern and southernmost areas of the city are partially or wholly served by the Round Rock Independent School District.

Over the years, various new master-planned communities have been developed around the city, which offers amenities such as family playgrounds, pools, community greenbelts, event centers as well as bike paths.
