About Del Valle, TX

Part of the Austin–Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area, Del Valle is a suburb of Austin, Texas. It is situated at a distance of 11 km southeast from Downtown Austin and is home to 23,083 people. Since it is not a corporate area and comes under Travis County, it does not have its own local government.

Its establishment started back in 1812 when the Spanish government gave Santiago Del Valle this piece of land. However, it was not until 1878 when a post office was opened in the town and the population began to grow. During its early years, there were only 50 residents in the area with three churches, one store, one school for the locals, and two cotton grins, which were sufficient to fulfill the employment needs of the people.

The population began to grow gradually but faced a massive decline due to the Great Depression, which rendered only 25 people in the area in the 1930s. However, in 1942, the Del Valle Army Air Base was established which lead to healthy growth in population and offered many opportunities for development. As more people started moving to Del Valle, more businesses, stores, schools were established. There were around 200 people in the area during the mid-1950s.

The military airbase was closed in 1993 and later converted to an airport named “Austin-Bergstrom International Airport”. This airport not only brought the population to Del Valle but also played a very important part in the city’s development.

The Austin Bergstrom International Airport covers a total area of 4,242 acres and has three helipads and two huge runways. This C class airport is not only huge but is one of the most used airports in the United States of America.

Del Valle has now become a densely populated city with a lot of opportunities for personal growth, industrial development, and recreational activities. It is also famous for its racing track, Circuit of the Americas (COTA), which is a 5.515 km long grade 1 track.

This facility has been used by the Formula One United States Grand Prix, Road Racing World Championship (MotoGP), WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Motorcycle Grand Prix, Rolex Sports Cars Series and the Australian V8 Supercars Series. So if you are a fan of car racing and love sports cars or would like to know more about car racing and its history, you should definitely come to Del Valle and visit the Circuit of the Americas.

Del Valle is also the home to one of the largest concert venues in the United States of America. The Austin 360 Amphitheatre is one huge open-air amphitheater situated within the Circuit of the Americas. This massive entertainment platform can easily fit 14,000 people.

Del Valle also offers you many amusement and recreational parks such as the Southeast Metropolitan Park, Richard Moya Park, and Barkley Meadows Park, etc. So you can always go there with your friends or family to spend your weekends or vacations.
